5.0 out of 5 stars Quickly Became One of My Favorite Packs by Osprey, September 9, 2009
Shorty after I bought this pack, it became one of my favorite packs that's offered by Osprey. Don't let the 32 L size scare you because the main compartment goes deep down and is able to hold A LOT. There are two very nice small mesh pockets on the side, and a large one on the front with straps to tighten. The pack also has a zippered top pocket that's ideal for carrying things like your wallet/phone/ipod/etc, and a pocket on each of the waist straps where I like to put my tool kit and fire striker. There are many loops going down the front and on the bottom that enable to you add hook ons too which is great. Overall the pack is very sturdy and has a feel of lasting durability (everything well made and what not). The frame (airspeed) is what really makes it stand out because it's in my opinion the nicest frames from Osprey. It's super comfortable. The pack is lightweight and great for UL hiking (day or an overnighter where you can share equipment with other hikers). I hoped... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Specific to my needs, May 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I was looking for a quality and versatile backpack with enough room for packing supplies for a 1 to 3 days hike and with this Medium/Large size I got it. I'm 5'8" and I this backpack can be adjusted to feel comfortable so that the load being carried (if arranged right - heavy stuff closer to your body) doesn't weight you down. It has a front deep pocket, the main big pocket (panel open design, which means that it opens up all the way as opposed to top panel design), a smaller top pocket, kind of concealed, useful for valuables like money, phone, handheld GPS, etc., and a rear pocket with a velcro closure for a hydration bladder. Two side nice size pockets for things like a 2 liter water bottle if you prefer this kind of bottle or maybe your rain jacket rolled up and handy in case of a sudden shower. The waist belt, also has one small pocket on each end for smaller things like a multi tool, compass, small point and shoot camera, etc. There are so many options given by the... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Just like the real Kestrel - streamlined and compact, April 16, 2011
I bought this pack from REI with my dividend. I do a lot of day hiking and birding, and I have several day packs I've worn out or got disgusted with. This by far is the pack I've ever had. Osprey has thought of everything in this design: mesh back, separate hydration pack compartment, hip belt pockets, built in rain jacket, fully adjustable shoulder harness, hiking pole carrier (yes a hiking pole carrier!), and lots of ways to tie stuff to the pack including two ice axe loops. The only complaint I've read from REI and Amazon reviewers is they think the hip belt is too small. I don't understand this, because the hip belt is wider than any of my other day packs, and the "reverse pull" to tighten the belt works better than the standard straight pull.
